This notice is meant to inform University Family Care Plan Members (UFCP) that Novo Nordisk, the manufacturer of the weight-loss drug Wegovy®, has announced that it is limiting the supply of the medication’s starter doses as a response to the drug’s growing demand.
Here’s what this means for UFCP Members who are currently prescribed Wegovy®:
- You may have difficulty filling your prescription for 0.25 mg, 0.5 mg, and 1 mg dose strengths through September 2023.
- It is recommended that you contact your pharmacy about refills at least 1-2 weeks earlier than normal.
- If you are on a higher maintenance dose, you should not be affected by the Wegovy® shortage.
- This supply issue is affecting pharmacies nationwide.
If you are having trouble filling your prescription through a University Health pharmacy, you have the option to go to another pharmacy. You can find a list of network pharmacies by logging into the Navitus Member Portal or visiting the Navitus Pharmacy Directory.
Community First Health Plans will not approve any “off-label” use of medications FDA approved for diabetes as a substitute for Wegovy®.
You can read more about the Wegovy® shortage at https://www.novonordisk-us.com/supply-update.html.
If you are unable to fill your prescription, speak with your health care provider about your treatment plan to determine the best course of action and options available.
