Background:
On July 9, 2024, the Mead Johnson Nutrition distribution center in Mt. Vernon, Indiana, was damaged by a severe tornado. WIC is in close communication with Mead Johnson, the makers of Enfamil, and WIC grocers to assess the impact to WIC clients. Mead Johnson, maker of Enfamil products, state that Enfamil Gentlease, Enfamil A.R and Enfamil Reguline may have limited availability in some retail stores due to severe damage to its distribution center in Mt. Vernon, Indiana. Mead Johnson has indicated the potential for continued impacts to retail availability of Enfamil Gentlease, Enfamil Reguline, and Enfamil A.R.
Key Details:
To make sure families continue to have access to the formula they need, Texas WIC is temporarily allowing the purchase of other Enfamil products, including different types, larger can sizes, and ready-to-feed versions, until October 31, 2024.
If you can’t find Enfamil Gentlease (12.4 oz) at the store, you have two options:
- Go back to your WIC clinic to have your benefits updated for a larger size or a similar product (this includes both Enfamil and other brands).
- Choose an available alternative brand formula at the store without needing to return to the clinic.
If you can’t find Enfamil A.R. or Enfamil Reguline in the usual WIC-can sizes, you can return to the clinic to update your benefits for larger sizes. You can also try a different formula or speak with your health care provider to explore other formula options.
